VC-Backed Patent Database

We are making available all patent data from 1970 to 2021. The variables included are: patent number, application date, grant date, and a flag as to whether the company was venture-backed. This dataset is in a STATA datafile and can be easily merged with the Patent Views database to obtain additional information on the patents. Click here for Patents View We identified as venture-backed patents those that were applied for in the year of the first venture financing or the five years thereafter. We are glad to provide the underlying information if users wish to use other definitions.
